Coventry Cathedral

Balancing the sacred with the commercial, tragedy with entertainment, education with emancipation.

The Brief

We were invited to join our techie friends, Suru Partners, in a joint bid to design and build a new website for this most distinctive and remarkable of English cathedrals. Our task was to discover and take into account the needs and views of the cathedral’s many different audiences, designing a website which would be easy and satisfying for all of them to use. The design needed to encourage visits to the cathedral for tourism and church services. It should promote ticket sales for the cathedral theatre shows, exhibitions, concerts and other art events. It must link with other partner organisations dedicated, like Coventry, to reconciliation. It must encourage new would-be choristers to join, and existing ones to get to rehearsals on time. Perhaps most importantly, it must convey the unique extent to which all are welcome at Coventry Cathedral. Our solution included a new overall narrative and subsequent copy plan, plus much of the copy currently on the site.
